This volume, the third in a series telling the story of my family history, centres on my father’s maternal ancestry. Now although so many questions still remain unanswered, the time had come for me to clarify and piece together the information I have accumulated over the years and which, up until now, had existed only in a myriad of impersonal, cryptic, index cards, files and folders. At the end of the story I have included an ancestor chart and family tree for this branch of my forbears together with lists of data from which they were compiled. Once again, I have to thank Roger for his patience and guidance in his role as ‘qualified driver’ as I negotiated the tricky manoeuvres of scanning and text wrapping etc.Interest in Family history has increased at a tremendous rate over the last few years, and until fairly recently most of us involved, or should I say obsessed, with the subject were considered ‘odd’. Some of us still are of course! Today, with access to the Internet and the many indexes available on-line, many newcomers to the hobby approach the subject with great expectations and are frequently disappointed when they cannot trace their ancestry back on a home computer to William the Conqueror - at least - in just one sitting! Indeed it is true that more and more information is being added to the Family History Internet sites all the time, but, there is something to be said for a general search - you never know what you are going to find! Read on!
