Stone laying ceremony 14/7/1923. Opened by Lord Derby 15/11/1924. Cost £12,000 and was endowed with £30,000. Designed to contain 20 beds. Inscription on memorial tablet reads "This building was given and endowed by the people of Bury as a perpetual memorial to their fellow townsmen who laid down their lives for honour & freedom in the Great War, 1914-1918. See BT 14th, 19th and 22nd Nov 1924.
