22/12/1945 "At their meeting on Monday, the Town Hall Committee were given the welcome news that Whitehall has at last agreed to allow the partial resumption of work on the new Town Hall. Work will begin immediately but it will be many months before the rooms are ready for occupation". "Work on the new Town Hall in Knowsley Street is progressing rapidly. The foundation stone is to be laid by the Earl of Derby on Friday, April 14th."
