Doctor who becama a leading chartist.Lived in Ramsbottom-a friend of Matthew Fletcher.Also an author and mentioned on most books on chartism.Born Newton Stewart Scotland son of middle class parents.Became a doctor and practised in Ramsbottom.Short man-known as "the little doctor ".Born 1814 and apparently drowned off Australia in 1853.This information has been supplied by library staff and may not be entirely accurate.
