Notes:
James R Crompton and Bros. Elton Paper Mills were the first to make crepe paper in the world. Its discovery was due to an accident whereby the drying cylinders were allowed to reach too high a temperature and as a result the paper crinkled. The employee responsible was fired , but later reinstated when one of the Crompton brothers saw a possible future in this type of paper, with the crinkles controlled and attraactive colouring matter added. This type of paper is no longer made at Cromptons. This information has been supplied by library staff and may not be entirely accurate.
